This game was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the launch of the NieR series. The project was announced in the livestream of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 of Niconico. Although belonging to the NieR universe, NieR Re[in]carnation has a distinct gameplay. This has caused fans of the series to not accept this new game, even they are considering it “trash”.
They wanted the feeling of moving in a big world instead of just watching the characters move on their own. However, from the point of view of the majority of players, Square Enix has made a very interesting, gacha game, suitable for release in the Japanese game market. And in my own opinion, this game is worth playing, not only because of its beautiful graphics but also many attractive features.
The story
The setting takes place in an area known as “The Cage”, which contains towers and dungeons, sometimes even a future. The main character of the game is Fio, a girl who wakes up on a stone floor and has no voice or memory. She adventured the dungeon with a strange being who called herself Mama. In search of the lost memory fragments, Fio and Mama continue to adventure and uncover the mysteries in the dungeon.
Gameplay
Square Enix did not rely on the success of NieR and NieR:Automata to develop NieR Re[in]carnation but turned in a different direction. The popular hack-and-slash gameplay has been transformed into an RPG, an innovative step in the NieR series. You can control the character in a 2D or 3D environment depending on the storyline, but when you enter the battle, you fight in a turn-based style.
Your team consists of 3 members. You can still move the character in a certain area and attack by pressing the skill key on the screen. To experience the full plot of the game, you need to overcome many levels and dungeons to unlock. The power of the dark creatures will increase gradually, so along with the experience of the plot, you need to increase the strength of the characters by increasing levels, obtaining equipment, pet…
Characeters
NieR Re[in]carnation includes characters such as Gayle, A2, Rion, Lars, Argo… and of course, the appearance of 9S and 2B. I can guess that the majority of people play NieR:Automata partly because of the graphics and story, and the rest because of 2B. However, 2B is not one of the regular characters but one that can only be obtained through limited time events. To collect characters, you need to spin gacha like other RPG games.
After the beginner experience, the system will give you a lot of resources to have the best start. The characters you should get are Gayle Bloddy Hunter and Gayle Abstract Hunter, 2B Griff, 2P, Aheka Mechanical Assassin and Lars Fractured Soldie. These are tier S+ characters from players’ experience.
Enhance character’s strength
To increase the strength of the character, you need to pay attention in four things: Enhance, Skill, Ascend and Equipment. These are the things that help your character grow in strength the fastest. Moreover, the materials can all be obtained in the normal dungeons, so it is easy to achieve maximum strength in the 3 systems of Enhance, Skill and Ascend. Equipment
Equipment is also divided into many different types. When you decide to get the characters in the limited banner, you should accumulate enough to spin the accompanying weapon. Weapons that come with the limited time banner are all optimized weapons to bring out the full power of the character. In addition, there are some other things in the equipment system that can help the character to become stronger, such as Companion and Memoirs.
Arena
To avoid the game becoming boring when there is only PVE mode, Square Enix decided to create the Arena system, also known as PVP. Here you can interact with other players and get many rewards. According to the nature of the game, you will win if you have a better strategy than your opponent. Therefore, the essential thing you need to ask yourself is how you want to play the squad, how the characters can complement each other, and then you build the team in that direction. Don’t get discouraged after losing against other players because it’s an experience for you on how to build a squad to apply to difficult event dungeons.
Graphics
As for the graphics of this game, there is no doubt, it is described by three words “masterpiece mobile game”. It must be said that developer Square Enix did a great job in combining 2D and 3D graphics. The color combination is also great, starting the plot with black and white color is an art. In addition, the character animation is also very smooth, not to mention the music is properly integrated. It’s not difficult for NieR Re[in]carnation to get a 10/10 points for graphics.
